First mentioned in documents in 1170. The castle Droyßig developed from a castle with a double wall and six half towers.
Haynsburg Castle

First mentioned in documents in the year 1185. The Haynsburg was used to protect the imperial hunting palace in Kayna and to secure the streets and the trade. The castle`s tower can be visited again after several building measures since the end of 1990.
Moritzburg Castle

On the ground of the Moritzburg there is the cathedral St. Peter and Paul whose crypt goes back to the 10th century and is the oldest Christian stone-built church east of the river Saale.
Wine production commenced again in the Zeitz region in 1999. The uniquely-situated English Garden in Salsitz offers optimal climatic conditions and the soil produces fruity and not too sour wines. One of the highlights at the wine growing estate is the Saale-Unstrut Vinotheque.

It takes them on a journey back through central German industrial history and offers guided tours of the oldest brick factory in the world still in existence, the Herrmannschacht factory in Zeitz.
Zeitz Underground System

An impressive underground system in the old part of the city. Most vaults and passages were created in the 15th and 16th centuries, in the heyday of the Zeitz brewery trade. The Zeitz ´´underworld´´ was used for the fermenting and storage of beer. Later, wine and food supplies were also stored here.
