There are nine mills along the well signposted hiking trail of about 18 km length, sometimes only the name shows its former use. But this way keeps a nearly forgotten piece of native country alive. The registered society of the last mill owners proudly presents the last preserved wind and water-mills. If by bike, on foot or on a funny brake outing, the mill`s hiking trial is a worth while place of interest for the young and
old.
The charming shell lime landscape along the Saale and Unstrut has become known because of the wine and the orchids. The beauty of the orchids is proverbial, even if some kinds are not generally noticed because of their unpretentious blossom colour or small size. When you have a closer look you can see the variety of colours and forms. Orchids are sensitive plants and are an indicator for an intact environment, their are strongly under protecture outside of the Natural Protection Areas. Information centres organize guided tours into the orchids
areas.
Unusual monuments as well as architectural details give evidence of an interesting history which is worth being learned about. Explore the landscape with its medieval buildings and idyllic places where history and nature of this beautiful countryside reflect in every
stone.
