Winestreet Saale-Unstrut

A unique cultural landscape developed along the rivers Saale and Unstrut which is characterized by the 1000 year old wine growing and an eventful history. The winestreet which was opened in 1993 goes along charming valleys, fruit farms and vineyards. You can see it on different ways, it does not have to be by car. You can go by boat or canoe on the rivers Saale and Unstrut, use walking or cycling paths or use the Burgenlandbahn (train) which partly are parallel to the winestreet and offer a lot of opportunities to get to know the country and people and have a rest in the small pubs.
The wine is growing on steep terraces of about 640 hectares and is mostly dry.The winegrowers offer their wines and giude you through the vineyard. Every year there are various wine festivals which invite visitos to taste the wine and have fun. Along the route of the winestreet there are the so called `Weinbauinseln`(winegrowing islands)..
