The cradle of the Wettins was in the northern Saale district
The noble family has left its mark in Wettin, Petersberg and Landsberg.
As a starting point for an excursion in the footsteps of the early Wettin dynasty, we recommend the picturesque ancestral castle perched above the Saale in WettinIts outdoor facilities are freely accessible. A very special sight is hidden in the Wettin district of MĂĽcheln. Here you will find the only Templar Chapel Germany.

Collegiate Church Petersberg
The Petersberg Collegiate Church from the 12th century attracts many people every year. The burial place of the early Wettins can be found here. A new monastery has resumed the tradition of the Middle Ages there. Six sisters and brothers live together in what is essentially a life of "ora et labora - pray and work". Below the collegiate church, the restaurant & café "Pavillon Petersberg" invites you to linger.
A final highlight of the journey is one of the most beautiful double chapels in Europe, the Romanesque double chapel "Sanctae Crucis" in Landsberg, with its fascinating capital decoration and refined spatial solutions. The historical inn "Goldener Löwe" or the brewery parlour of the Landsberg brewery will take care of your physical well-being.
