How it all began in Memleben...
The year is 973 and the East Frankish Empire is melting more and more into an iron unity. For decades, Emperor Otto I has been consolidating his power in Central Europe. At the end of his life, he returns to where it all began - to the place of death of his father Henry I. When Otto I also finds eternal rest, his heart is removed and buried at the bottom of the Memleben Imperial Palace.
Today, the site still has an impressive energy. Parts of the historic structure have survived the test of time, e.g. the impressive late Roman crypt, which remains in its original columned state.
