The cross-regional River Saale Cycle Trail starts in Zell in the Fichtel Mountains, winds along the River Saale through Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt and finishes in Barby on the River Elbe.

We recommend the section from Jena to Wettin, which can be cycled in 2 one-day stages (around 130 km) on mainly well-developed paths. Towns such as Jena, Naumburg and Halle and the many castles alongside the trail tell glorious tales of the Saale region. The further course of the river is enriched by Germany’s northernmost wine-growing region, Saale-Unstrut, and the country’s longest graduation works at Bad Dürrenberg. The River Saale Cycle Trail is one of the most interesting cycle trails in Germany.
