In the Deuben Mining Museum you can learn interesting facts about the Zeitz-Weißenfels lignite mining area from its beginnings in the early 19th century to the present day on an area of over 600 m².
Models, diagrams and objects illustrate geological conditions, the development of mining methods, the refinement of coal and, last but not least, the life of the people in the mining area.
Mini-format open-cast mining equipment, historical maps, mine models, large-format photos and much more tell the story of the area. Furthermore, the effects of mining and its consequences are highlighted, and the memory of the villages in the region that were dredged over by mining is kept alive.
Furniture and utensils from earlier days and a former classroom complete the excursion into the past. The highlight is the original walk-in underground gallery in the basement of the museum - history comes alive here!
