Arriving by car at one of the free visitor car parks, the tourist signposting system will guide the guest into the old town. The farmhouses there with interesting house brands present themselves in baroque style. Their old splendour has been restored through renovation work consistently accompanied by the protection of historical monuments. A walk through the old town of Querfurt is best started on the market square. This is dominated by the town hall, whose core building dates from the late Gothic period and is still the seat of the city administration. Opposite is the city information desk, where you can get flyers, souvenirs and further information. By walking further, one comes across to the city wall that is still two thirds of the way intact, through which the visitor can easily understand the former size of Querfurt. A visit to the late-Gothic town church is worthwhile as well as a walk through the town cemetery, where there are gravestones from five centuries. Idyllically situated is the Thal Garden, which leads to Thaldorf, where the monument of the Holy Brun, the Brown Fountain, is located. In summer it is worth visiting the Querfurt town baths, which are located at the foot of the castle. Stainless steel pools with sports and animation area, giant slide and diving tower offer relaxation for young and old. You can find out more about the history of the town and its most famous personalities such as Johannes Schlaf, the important naturalist, or Jacob Christian Schäffer, the polymath and inventor of the washing machine, on a guided tour, which the town information office is happy to provide. As a souvenir of a visit to Querfurt we recommend a bottle of the wine "Edler von Querfurt", which is grown on the former monastery vineyard " St. Bruno" not far from the town, or the herbal liqueur "Dicker Heinrich", named after the large round keep on the castle.
