Max Klinger (18.2.1857-4.7.1920), the famous graphic artist, painter and sculptor from Leipzig, purchased a vineyard with a vineyard house in Großjena in 1903. Together with his partner at that time, the writer Elsa Asenijeff, he spent many happy days on the vineyard. In the years between 1903 and 1920 he produced numerous etchings and a large number of drawings, watercolours and oil paintings. From 1909 he had the upper vineyard house converted into a comfortable residence. In 1910 he met the 17-year-old Gertrud Bock (1893-1932) here, who posed for him together with her sister Ella. After a stroke in 1919, Klinger moved his main residence to Großjena and married Gertrud Bock, with whom he had lived together for several years. Klinger died on 4 July 1920 on the "Klingerberg", where he also found his final resting place. The permanent exhibition of the Klinger House provides a comprehensive insight into the life and work of the artist. Highlights of the exhibition are the two large tiled stoves, which were designed and shaped by Klinger himself.
