The farmstead served as the forester's house of the Petersberg domain for over 220 years. The forester's lodge (today a museum) in the Alte Halleschen Straße is protected as a cultural-historical and urbanistically important monument. In the Museum Petersberg we show you an exhibition on the history of the historic Saalkreis, one of the oldest historically grown regional authorities in Central Germany. The permanent exhibition "The Augustinian Canons Regular Monastery on Petersberg - Konrad von Wettin" is the first step into regional history. The exhibition section "Cultural and social history of the 19th century" is housed in the stable room of the former farm building. At the front of the building the door to a historical bakery is open for you. On some Sundays of the year the old German oven is heated with wood as in the days of the old foresters and bread is baked according to traditional recipes.
The museum has become famous in recent years for its varied and interesting special exhibitions, which are always worth a visit. Since September 2016 the permanent exhibition "Die Blechspielwarenfabrik Josef Kraus & Co. in Nürnberg" (1910 - 1941) can be seen in the new exhibition building. The exhibition provides exciting impressions for friends of model railways and people interested in technology and gives an interesting insight into the contemporary and economic history of the 20s, 30s and 40s of the 20th century.
