Droyssig Castle has its origins in a medieval castle complex, which was built at the beginning of the 13th century to secure an important road junction. At the beginning of the 13th century, the imposing castle was built by crusaders who brought with them experience in castle building from the Orient. Today, this building, which is unique for the German region, is still almost completely preserved. Surrounded by a moat, a circular double ring of walls rose from which six tall, narrow and elongated semicircular towers protruded far outwards at regular intervals, while a round keep towered in the centre of the complex, offering a wide view.
In the castle there is a gastronomy with regional specialities.
Brown bear husbandry has existed in Droyßig since 1870. Visit the bears Aiko and Toni in the castle complex.
