The Wettin Geopath represents a thematically oriented hiking and educational offer for visitors and residents in the nature park "Lower Saale Valley". The 9 km long nature trail opens up the area northwest of Wettin as a circular path. On ten panels the varied geological conditions and the legacies of mining in this area of interest in terms of mining history are explained. With its focus on geology and mining history, the Wettin Geopath supplements the existing nature and cultural landscape trails in the nature park area. The facts shown on the display boards of the individual geopoints, combined with numerous graphic representations, vividly convey a comprehensive picture of the geological conditions in the "Lower Saale Valley" Nature Park. The former Wettin coal-mining district, which is characterised by an accumulation of mining relics such as the numerous slagheaps, is also considered a site of classical carboniferous flora and fauna. In addition, the visitor is offered impressive views of the nature park area extending along the lower Saale river. For the way, which mostly leads over paved and unpaved field paths, one needs about 3 hours.
