The ecumenical pilgrimage path leads through the Saale-Unstrut region for about 60 kilometres.
Coming from Leipzig, the route leads through Merseburg. Here on the river Saale is the oldest church in the city, the Neumarktkirche St. Thomae, which today serves as a hostel for pilgrims. Furthermore, from the Saale you can see the cathedral and castle ensemble of Merseburg. Over meadows and fields, past the Großkaynaer See, the route leads to Freyburg an der Unstrut. Before that you will cross the "Alte Göhle", an old forest. In the idyllic wine town Freyburg you will also find a hostel. From here you follow the Unstrut to Großjena. You will pass the Stone Picture Book and finally end up in the Blossom Ground, where you take the ferry. You will reach Naumburg. In Naumburg you will find several accommodations. From here you continue along the river Saale through the nature reserve "Göttersitz" through the Finne to Eckartsberga. From the tower of Eckartsburg you have a wonderful view, even into the Thuringian basin. The tour continues in the direction of Erfurt.
