There are few conductors who have performed all the Bruckner symphonies in all the existing versions as he has: "I have had the opportunity to conduct every year in St Florian, where Bruckner was organist for several years and, as we know, is also buried. When you play his symphonies in this acoustic, you quickly learn what Bruckner actually wanted." For the opening of the MDR Music Summer, the Bruckner expert devotes himself to the "romantic" Fourth Symphony: a majestic sound fresco complete with "forest rustle" and "birdsong" (Bruckner), in which there are many treasures to be unearthed.
