Silent Night with the "rustle of the forest" versus earthly "turmoil": in the third concert of the Music Summer Opening, the MDR Radio Choir and Philipp Ahmann present Hugo Wolf's "Six Spiritual Songs", a cycle of Eichendorff poems that is one of the most important choral compositions of the late Romantic period. Romantic spirit also pervades Franz Schubert's choral songs, whose "Mignon" setting from Goethe's "Wilhelm Meister" evokes deep melancholy and longing for Italy. A special highlight is the world premiere of Michael Langemann's choral fantasy "Die Einsamkeit der Männer - Mexikanische Sonette" ("The Loneliness of Men - Mexican Sonnets"), based on the cycle of poems of the same name by Wolf Wondratschek.
