Already more than 251 million years ago, in the age of Triassic and the time of the first dinosaurs, Saale and Unstrut formed our region by working their way through the mineral-rich rock layers of shell limestone and red sandstone. In addition to the charming river landscapes, the typical slopes of our region were created. Here, not only vines have been thriving on sunny steep slopes for over a thousand years. A particularly rich cultural landscape has also developed here.
