The rivers also play their part in the popularity of this charming stretch of land. Let the enchanting panorama of the intact natural and cultural landscape pass you by on a leisurely boat trip on the Saale or while paddling on the Unstrut. Simply hire a rowing boat, canoe or kayak from one of the local Boat Hire and get active as a water walker.
River tour on the Unstrut
Alone or as part of a guided water tour lasting several days - just as you please!
The 200 km long Unstrut with its varied river course is particularly suitable for this, as it has not been navigated by passenger ships since 2017. Before the Unstrut reaches Flower base The river flows into the Saale near Naumburg, and even inexperienced boaters can try their hand at rowing or paddling on the calmly flowing water.
In recent years, a lot has been done to reconstruct the technical facilities along the Unstrut. In the meantime, seven locks have been reopened between Freyburg and Artern for water hikers during the Operating hours passable (for a fee). With child and cone at Board walk, sit back and relax and let vineyards and castles from the Middle Ages pass by. Surely one of the most relaxing ways to explore the Saale-Unstrut region!
But also water sports enthusiasts will enjoy the natural Saale between Bad Kösen and Weißenfels at their expense! You can choose from a total of twenty different boat tours on the rivers Unstrut and Saale. Twenty reasons, as varied as they are tempting, to let yourself drift and be carried by the water in the Saale-Unstrut holiday region.
Sometimes fast, sometimes slow on the White Elster
The Weiße Elster, which flows into the Saale near Halle, was named "River Landscape of the Year 2020/21" by the Friends of Nature of Germany.
So you can also discover the idyllic river landscape of the White Elster, Central Germany's most important river. Paddling tours of varying degrees of difficulty are possible on the White Elster between Wünschendorf, Bad Köstritz and Zeitz.
