After 330 years of mining, the largest artificial lake in Germany was created here.
Cyclists, skaters and hikers use the popular 28-kilometre-long Geiseltal circular route for a tour with a stopover at the vineyard.
There is a vineyard in the former brown coal opencast mine Geiseltal. With specially developed techniques, scientific helpers and, above all, the winegrowers' family's belief in the special location, strong vines thrive there today. The southern orientation of the slope, its 30 percent incline and the reflection of the lake are conditions that probably do not occur a second time in Germany. In 2008, the vineyard was awarded a future prize as the most innovative vineyard.
And all those who prefer not to walk after a visit to the winegrower can board the Geiseltal Express, which makes its daily rounds around the lake. The sun-seekers, in turn, find a place on the waterways of the port facilities and for water sports enthusiasts and bathers there are plenty of opportunities to plunge into the waters.
