Cyclists' and hikers' paradise
The Wethautal - the idyllic region from the heath land, over the Molau plateau, to the mouth of the Wethaumündung into the Saale near Schönburg - is ideal for discovery tours. Excursionists get their money's worth both on foot and by bike and can explore and marvel at the wealth of tourist attractions. Several sections of the "Rad-Acht", which connects the Saale, Unstrut and Elster cycle paths, lead through the Wethautal.

Enjoy the charming landscapes on your tours: get to know the new cycle path between Zeitz and Camburg, which uses the disused railway line of the former "Zuckerbahn" and is ideal for families because of its even gradient. Since 2011 this route has been continuously extended and leads in the Wethautal from Weickelsdorf via Osterfeld and Cauerwitz to Schkölen in Thuringia. In the coming years, the route will continue from there via Molau to the actual destination Camburg.

Or take a closer look at the old mills on the Wethau. On the mill cycle path you get from Osterfeld through Loebitz and then further along the brook through Mertendorf to the mouth into the Saale shortly before Schönburg.

Good things from home - regional products from the Wethautal
Giving the consumer the opportunity to trace the origin of goods and inform himself about the production methods and procedures - that is the concern of direct marketers in the Wethautal, who offer a wide range of different products for sale in direct and short distances.
Tasty, fresh and home-made products and not least the special atmosphere during the shopping experience are increasingly appreciated. On your tour through the Wethautal, why not visit the Grüner Hof in Löbitz. True to the motto "live naturally - eat healthily", you will find meat and sausage products here based on tradition and many years of experience. Every step of the production process is carried out by the family business itself and can therefore guarantee quality and freshness. In addition, special recipes, natural ingredients and spices ensure a delicious taste.
Other suppliers of regional products in the Wethautal are, among others, "Kathrins Hofladen" in Oberkaka, the "Alte Bäckerei" in Schönburg or the Schlegel bakery in Waldau.

Places worth seeing in the municipality

Gieckau - the place is very popular because of three attractions: Firstly, there is the Gieckau riding stable, which has an indoor and outdoor riding arena. Whether riding in the surrounding area or on the grounds, after such a riding experience it is definitely worth stopping at the beautifully restored country inn in the village. There, the discerning palate can expect culinary delicacies of the German and also regional cuisine. There is also a generously equipped adventure playground and a petting zoo for small guests. In the beer garden time there is also the possibility to enjoy the stay outside. And for those who would like to stay a little longer, the nearby Hotel Falkenhof certainly offers a free bed in the middle of meadows and forests.

Easter field - the city with the "Matzturm" radiates its very own charm. The town, which was already mentioned in a document in 1198, has numerous sights. The centre of attraction is the castle grounds high above the city. A Slavic rampart castle was already located here in the 6th century, in the 11th and 12th century the castle complex was then massively expanded. The surrounding walls and remains of the ramparts in the adjacent Hayn are still preserved today. The old castle keep, which is popularly known as the "Matzturm", is also remarkable. The idyllically situated natural swimming pool, which was completely restored a few years ago, attracts numerous bathers in summer - then a visit to the ice cream parlour "Blaue Blume" with its delicious ice-cold delicacies is also recommended.

Schönburg - 40 metres above the Saale, on a sandstone cliff, a castle is enthroned, which gave the village below the medieval building its name: Schönburg. Worth seeing are the 32-metre high keep with its beautiful fireplace in the tower chamber and the guard room at the top of the tower. At the foot of Schönburg Castle, excursions to the castle and its surroundings can be started: A landing stage for ships, a camping site, cycle and hiking paths around Schönburg meet here. For tired hikers there is a café and a confectionery as well as sufficient gastronomic localities and overnight accommodation in the village. In addition, discover the beauty of nature through a small window on the 1.5 km long geological trail, which is laid out as a circular hiking trail. The trail starts at the parking lot at the entrance to Naumburg and leads you through the village, past the castle and the vineyard. On five educational panels, topics such as red sandstone, wine, spring water or Schönburg rocks are treated.

Sieglitz - the small town offers several destinations for excursions: On the one hand a Dutch windmill, which produced flour until the 1950s, on the other hand "Heine's Cabinet of Rarities", which displays numerous nostalgic exhibits from long forgotten times. The operator Heino Kirbst also organizes the annual vintage car meeting, which is known and loved far beyond the region. Throughout the year, the rustic festival barn also delights visitors with numerous cultural events.
