On the traces of the dukes of Sachsen-Weißenfels to their former hunting lodge Klein-Friedenthal.

And right at the beginning, the keep Dicker Wilhelm from Neuchâtel Castle greets you. You should definitely visit the castle, because after all, Saint Elisabeth from Thuringia was already here.

Later the path leads you further through an old tree alley into the forest, which at the beginning runs a short distance through a peace forest. You cross the town bypass of Freyburg, where a feeling of wanderlust sets in.
We continue along the edge of the forest and a beautiful forest path to the former hunting lodge Klein-Friedenthal. In former times there was a zoo with pleasure garden as well as the palace Klein-Friedenthal. In the former garden area there is also the Horchhügel. Horchhügel is supposed to come from horchen ... but that is not certain. But it is true that the beautiful resting place at the Horchhügel and the area will take you on a tour of discovery. Be careful that you literally do not stray from the path.
For the garden fountain, imagination is only required for the depth, because it is buried, the outer walls were renewed in 1996. The fountain was 75 meters deep.

Let the hunting party arise before your inner eye. The drivers with their dogs, the hunters on horseback, they were certainly handsome hunting parties.
They hear the barking of dogs, the hunting horns - oh no, a woodpecker ... The dream is over.

Very important: at this point there is a wonderful hiking trail that comes from Pödelist.

The further hike leads you to the Windberg, the view opens up to the winegrowing town of Freyburg and you can actually let the wind blow around your nose.

The way back, leading through a light forest, opens views into the valley to the winegrowing town and the vineyards.
You can also start the hike in Freyburg, starting at the Schützenplatz (car park).

Author's tip: Spend a few days in Freyburg, because you should definitely visit Neuchâtel Castle - with its Romanesque double chapel - high above the winegrowing town, the Rotkäppchen sparkling wine cellars - with their impressive glass-roofed atrium, the Freyburg Winegrowers' Association with one of the largest wooden barrel cellars in Germany and last but not least the Jahnmuseum, where the life and work of the gymnastics father is documented.
And - the many local winegrowers ........and let the days come to an end with a delicious Saale-Unstrut wine.

Many other hiking trails around Freyburg (e.g. the wine trail is a good example) are waiting to be explored.

An important hint for orientation before starting the hiking dung: On the parking lot there are hiking and information boards with all hiking trails in the nearer surroundings.

There are numerous restaurants in Freyburg, e.g. Hotel Unstruttal, Weinhotel Freylich Zahn, Hotel Zur Sonnenuhr, Hotel Rebschule and along the way the Weinberghotel Edelacker.
