The nature trail leads through the historically grown cultural landscape of the Wettin porphyry area and the adjacent Saale floodplain near Mücheln. The unique porphyry landscape near Wettin can be explored on the approx. 2.5 km long circular trail. Display boards inform about the special features of the natural area. The topics geology and landscape history, animal and plant world, soil and vegetation as well as witnesses of the historically grown cultural landscape are presented. The trail runs through the "Porphyry Dome Landscape near Gimritz" nature reserve, which is also part of the European protected area "Porphyry Dome Landscape northwest of Halle". A valuable vegetation mosaic of semi-arid and dry grassland, dwarf-shrub heaths and orchard meadows is characteristic here. Rare animal and plant species find suitable habitats. The landscape is characterised by the dark reddish-brown porphyry rock and the striking fracture steps, dry valleys and rocky cliffs. The landscape of the adjacent Saale floodplain is determined by the wide and curved course of the river Saale with accompanying riparian shrubs, reeds and tall perennials.
